Had another great couple weeks of eating local food. We’re so lucky here in Victoria to have such a long growing season and so many great local growers. A while back, Paul and I made a commitment to only eat good quality local meats. We were out at Slaters one day and I got chatting with the fellow there and mentioned we live in James Bay. He said “Oh! We deliver meats to Niagara Grocery in James Bay every morning! You won’t have to travel so far if you want to pick up meat!” To be honest, I had never even heard of this grocery store, it’s just up near the corner of Niagara and Government and Paul and I had rarely walked that way so I guess we just overlooked it. Well a few days later, we thought we’d go check it out. Were we ever impressed! They have a great selection of local meats, fish and veggies. Many of the veggies are organic, and others are locally grown if they can’t find organic ones. The meat is absolutely delicious. You can’t even compare the difference between a local farm raised chicken and the crappy medicated chicken they sell in the bigger grocery stores. The selection is pretty good. Yesterday when we went to pick up dinner fixin’s, they had chicken breast, half chickens, pork chops, lamb chops, bison steak, eye of round, and marinaded chicken wings, they also carry galloping goose sausage and fresh fish.
